Teeth Sensitive?

It could be your toothpaste. We have seen an increase in sensitive teeth lately. We are also seeing an increase in the amount of people using whitening toothpastes. Some of these toothpastes are too abrasive. If you start to notice an increase in cold sensitivity, try switching to a plain toothpaste or one specifically formulated for sensitive teeth. This should help.

The most important ingredient I toothpaste is fluoride. Also, if you notice a film or white layer in your mouth after brushing that is caused from pyrophosphates in the toothpaste. Read the ingredients, any time you see the word “pyro” think fire. This agent is irritating your mouth causing tissue sloughing. If you are curious how your toothpaste rates just ask and we can look it up on our charts.

REMEMBER: Fluoride treatment after your cleaning are inexpensive and take 1 extra minute of your time. It is the best way to prevent decay and protect your dental investment.

Are you at increased risk for cavities?

If you are consuming soft drinks you are! Soft drinks are made with phosphoric or citric acid, making the acidity level in your mouth much higher than normal, regardless if the soda is diet or non-diet. Frequent ingestion of these beverages is a risk factor in the frequency and severity of cavities.

There are many reported side effects to the consumption of soft drinks. These include dental cavities, enamel erosion, obesity, nutritional deficiencies and decrease in milk consumption, potentially resulting in a subsequent risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
